METROPOLITAN QUARTER SESSIONS.
————
(Before Judge Backhouse and juries of 12.)

    Mr GML Innes Crown Prosecutor.

CRIMINAL OFFENCE.

Alfred Costello, a middle-aged man, pleaded not guilty to a charge of having committed a criminal offence, [indecently assaulting Frederick Allberry] at Forest Lodge, on January 9. The jury, after three-quarters of an hour’s consideration, brought in a verdict of guilty, and recommended that the man should be examined as to his sanity. While giving evidence on his own behalf the accused posed as being highly religious. The judge remanded Costello for sentence, and intimated that the wish of the jury would be attended to.

ASSAULT.

Alfred Costello was accused of having committed a criminal offence on January 9, at Forest Lodge, and was found guilty; but the foreman of the jury asked his Honor to defer sentence, as they seemed to think there was something wrong with the intellect of the accused, and they wished an examination made. His Honor intimated that their desire should be complied with. Prisoner was accordingly remanded.
