INDECENCY CHARGES

Leslie Arthur Tall, 18, 2 laborer, who appeared at Burwood Court to-day on three charges of Indecency at Haberfield, was remanded for medical observation.

    Constable Mills said defendant has just concluded a six months’ sentence for a similar offence.

SM EMPHASISES
NEED FOR REFORM

Leslie Arthur Tall, 18, laborer, said to have the mentality of a child aged nine was sentenced at Burwood Court to-day to six months gaol for indecency at Haberfield, but Mr Williams, SM, said he would recommend his release if it were found possible to secure such control over him as to prevent him offending again.

    Tall’s father said defendant told him nothing about the offence.

    “I would like to have him medically treated” he said “but it is for you to say what to do with him. I can’t suggest anything.”

    The Magistrate: Unfortunately we have no place other than a gaol where we can segregate these unfortunates.

    Leslie Arthur Tall, aged 18, laborer, was sentenced by Mr Williams, SM, at the Burwood Court to-day to six months’ imprisonment for indecency at Haberfield on November 6.

    The magistrate intimated that, in the event of it being found possible to secure such control over him as would prevent him from offending in future, he would be prepared to make a recommendation to the Minister.

    Tall was only recently released from Gosford prison farm, where he had been sent for a similar offence.

    A doctor’s report stated that he had the mentality of a child of nine.

    “Unfortunately we have no place other than a gaol, where we can segregate these unfortunates,” said the magistrate.

Sydney, Thursday.

    Convicted at the Glebe Police Court today on a charge of indecent behaviour, Leslie Arthur Tall, aged 18, was sentenced to six months’ gaol. The Magistrate were told that defendant only recently was released from prison alter having served a similar term for the same offence.

CYCLIST BADLY HURT

    Leslie Arthur Tall, 23, of Alt Street, Haberfield, was; seriously injured yesterday afternoon when he was thrown from his bicycle after striking a tram in Ramsay Rd. Haberfield.

    Tall rolled under the vehicle, and was caught in the safety guard. His skull was fractured, and he received abrasions and shock.

    It is stated that Tall’s machine became caught in the tramlines and he was unable to get out of the way of the oncoming tram.

    Western Suburbs Ambulance took him to Lewisham Hospital, where he was admitted.

Crushed by Ferry.

    Miss Violet Tibbits, 23, of Waruda-street, Kirribilli, suffered injuries to her legs yesterday morning, when she attempted to board a ferry at the Kirribilli wharf, fell, and was crushed between the ferry and a pile. She was rescued from the water by officials of the ferry and bystanders. She was taken to Sydney Hospital.

Boy Thrown From Lorry.

    Reginald Best, 15, of Quigg-street, Lakemba, suffered fractures of the left leg and right arm in George’s River-road, Enfield, yesterday, when a lorry on which he was riding struck the kerb, and he was thrown off. He was taken to Western Suburbs Hospital by the Western Suburbs Ambulance.

Man Felled by Tram.

    A cyclist, Leslie Arthur Tall, 23, of Alt-street, Haberfield, was knocked down by a tram in Ramsay-road, Haberfield, last evening. Suffering from injuries to the skull and abrasions to the body, he was conveyed by Western Suburbs Ambulance to Lewisham Hospital.

Newsboy Falls From Tram.

    Oliver Darley, 12, of Baptist-street, Redfern, was selling newspapers on a tram in Cleveland-street, Redfern, yesterday afternoon, when he slipped and fell to the road. He was taken to Sydney Hospital by the Central District Ambulance, suffering from a fracture of the left thigh.
